Synopsis

Declining birth rates, physician shortages, and the growing number of obstetrics departments closing in regional areas—today’s maternity care system is facing an unprecedented crisis. Even perinatal medical centers responsible for high-risk pregnancies are reaching their limits in accepting emergency transfers. Against this backdrop, a secret team is formed by special order of the hospital director at one of Japan’s most prestigious private hospitals, located in the heart of Tokyo. Its name: the Maternal and Child Emergency Rescue Team. Their mission is to provide free medical care to pregnant women with nowhere else to turn. At the center of the team is Mitsui Aki, a highly skilled obstetrician and gynecologist. Despite having hearing loss in one ear, she is a self-made specialist who is more determined than anyone to hear a baby’s first cry.
